Yes, it is possible. You should put the fa icon before the text of the menu item (in your case “Contact”), like this:

<smart-menu-item [value]="'contact'">
<fa-icon [icon]="iconContact" title="contact" size="2x"></fa-icon>
Contact
</smart-menu-item>
